Extra! Extra! Read all about it! Next time you visit Reilly Elementary, make sure you check out their new student-written newspaper called the Fourth Grade Forum. New issues are available every two weeks, and it includes: editorials, local news, star teacher, weather reports, and sports.
Sarah Burtnett’s fourth-grade class started writing the newspaper as a project the students could do on their own, with some teacher guidance. The newspaper is an enrichment project for those that excel in the classroom. “We allow the students to write about anything they feel is important”, Miss Burtnett stated. “They are even starting an article that will feature a star student based on his or her character.”
Writing can be hard, especially at a fourth-grade level, and to be able to put together a newspaper is a great accomplishment. We, at Salem City Schools, are proud of our students and teachers for pushing the extra mile and actively pursuing anything they set their minds on.
