Reading can be a blast, and the students at Buckeye Elementary used reading to go above and beyond to help others this November. Throughout the month, every class at Buckeye Elementary participated in their first annual Read-A-Thon. Students asked for and raised over $1,300 in donations. The donations will be split in half and used to buy new books for Buckeye Elementary as well for schools in the U.S. Virgin Islands damaged by the hurricanes.
As an encouragement to keep reading, every Fun Friday in November had a theme: Pajama Day, Sunglasses Day, Hat Day and “Get Hooked” Day which had a special treat. Students were able to participate by reading a book that week, whether it be at school or at home, and the results were extraordinary! By raising $1,300, each class at Buckeye received $30 to spend on books. Salem City Schools is proud to have avid readers and students that want to help out those that were affected by the hurricanes.
