Back in October, our Southeast students hosted and participated in their first Read-A-Thon at the CenterPlex. The students read books all day long in an effort to raise money for the school. The goal was to raise $5,000 to continue learning and improve positive student interactions during indoor recess this winter. Studies have shown that during the lunch and recess hours is when bullying is most likely to occur.
The end result was astonishing! The students were able to meet and exceed their goal, raising over $5200 during the Read-A-Thon. This money was then used to purchase many sets of games and different toys to be used during indoor recess this and in future years. Among the games and toys are the game Simon, Topple, Pictionary, Trouble, Bop It!, Guess Who and chess boards. We are so proud of our students for going out and raising the money, and more importantly, following through with the Read-A-Thon and getting the job done! With these games in hand, our Southeast students will continue to have fun even when the weather outside disagrees with that notion.
